After tough loss at SLP, Wildcats rebound nicely against Fridley
The Wildcats' five game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Alison Johnson and the Orioles. Johnson scored a career-high 30 points and the Orioles were 22 of 30 from the freethrow line, while CL was 10 of 14 from the Charity stripe.
"We had a good offensive night, but couldn't defend their best player," said Wildcat head coach Craig Walker. "Megan Corradi was in foul trouble and had to sit the opening part of the second half. Even when Megan isn't leading us in scoring, her court presence tends to calm our other players down."
Without Corradi on the floor, the Orioles overcame the Vikings' 32-30 halftime lead and, at one point, extended their own lead to 18 points.
Whitney Tinjum had a big game with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Amanda Farrell had 17 points while shooting four of five from three point land. "But, we still didn't play our game," Walker said. "That's tough to say, but it wasn't our best effort, especially defensively. When you score 64 and have four players in double digits and lose, that's tough to take."

Fridley at Chisago Lakes
The Wildcats defeated the Fridley Tigers Friday, January 25. In a game that was much more one-sided than the final score would indicate, CL won 55-39 in the Chisago Lakes gym.
The Wildcats controlled play from the beginning, using defensive pressure to disrupt the Tigers' offensive plans. At halftime, the home team built a 22-13 lead before the offense shifted into high gear.
In the first five minutes of the second half, the 'Cats expanded their lead to 15 points. A 9-4 CL run was punctuated by a Megan Corradi steal and 12 foot jumper that put her team ahead 31-16 with 12:50 on the clock.
The Tigers scored the next three points, but fast break layups by Amanda Farrell, Summer Young and Corradi pushed the margin to 18. With 10 minutes remaining, the Wildcats enjoyed a 37-19 lead.
The offense continued to click for the next seven minutes as CL went on an 18-9 run to remove any doubt about the outcome. With 3:10 left, the Wildcats' lead had ballooned to 55-28.
Fridley scored 11 meaningless points in the final minutes. It was too little, too late as the 'Cats secured a sixth conference win out of seven games.
"We bounced back tonight after a tough loss at St. Louis Park," coach Walker said. "We're starting to find our identity as a team. We played better all around basketball against Fridley. Defensively we were able to defend the post better and kept the ball away from them.
"We started out slow, playing a zone defense. But that seemed to limit our energy offensively. As soon as we switched, we started to pick up our game offensively and went on a nice run to end the half and picked it up again at the start of the second half. Brenna Coyle has picked up her game defensively and chipped in eight on the offensive end," Walker concluded.
