Chad Stenson, a 2006 graduate of Chisago Lakes High School, enrolled at Inver Hills Community College during the 2006-07 school year. While at Inver Hills, he wrestled on the Dakota County Technical Center team. "It was a learning experience for me," Stenson said. "I ended the season with eight wins and qualified for the National Tournament."

Unfortunately, from Stenson's perspective, DCTC has disbanded its wrestling program. "I really wanted to keep wrestling, so I transferred to Rochester Community and Technical College," the sophomore Criminal Justice student said. "Rochester really seems to have a solid wrestling program and Coach Rager is committed to his program.

"This year, I have had a tougher go of it as I am at the 149 pound weight class and the competition seems tougher. I started in August at 170 pounds and knew I would probably need to make 149 by the start of the season.

"It is difficult wrestling and keeping grades up, but I have been able to do it. The lowest grade I have gotten so far is a B. Wrestling has really given me something to focus on in college, along with my studies. I hear of a lot of High School athletes who never go out for sports in college. I would encourage them to give it a try. I mean why not? The level of competition is higher but how do you know if you can do it if you don't try?" Stenson continued.

The CL grad's interest in sports began early. He wrestled in Chisago Lakes Community Education prgram through sixth grade. During his middle and high school years, he wrestled for the Wildcats. In his senior year, Stenson earned All-Conference recognition in both football and wrestling.

"There is no doubt that wrestling made me a better football player and a better overall athlete and football improved my chances for success on the mat" said Stenson. "I always tried to stay active in sports in school and participated in baseball as well as track in the spring seasons. I always felt that being active in a variety of sports would help me in the other sports I was involved in, and being involved in athletics led me to a job at the Ice Arena and great friendships."

Stenson's future plans include continuing with his studies and working toward four-year degree. "I will need to move on to a four year college. As of now, I am undecided as to where I will be."

Stenson is the son of Jackie and Kevin Stenson of Lindstrom.
