Who, what, where, when, relax, we have all your Karl Oskar Days info right here
The events that started on Wednesday, I told you about last week. So here is what you need to look out for this week. The snuff box hunt will begin on Wednesday at noon. Clues will be posted at the Chisago County Press, Lindstrom Antique Mall, Lindstrom Foods, and Wally Carlson's BP.
On Thursday, you will find great buys on merchandise all around town. The snuff hunt will resume on Thursday in anticipation that someone will not have found it on the first day of clues (yes, it has happened before).
Thursday night I would like to invite everyone to the Chisago Lakes Performing Arts Center at the high school for the 2008 Karl Oskar Days Queen Coronation. As you saw in last week's paper, there are more queen candidates than I can ever remember, so the judges really have some hard decisions to make.
Friday things really get jumping beginning with the Taste of Tingsryd at the Lindstrom Community Center. This year's taste will include such delicasies as Swedish meatballs, Swedish potato sausage, cucumber and onions, Swedish rye bread and much more. There will be a Swedish sing-a-long following the meal. The Taste of Tingsryd begins at 11 a.m.
As always, there will be vendors in Library Park selling some really neat stuff. Along with the vendors the good people that put Karl Oskar Days together have scheduled music and entertainment for your enjoyment. There are some really great artists performing this year.
Later on Friday, make sure you head over to Lions Park to check out the Queen's Tug-O-War Challenge. Beginning at 5 p.m., you will see all of the queen candidates and their teams try to pull the other teams into a giant mud pit. If you have never seen this before, you really should come out and see it, it makes for some really big laughs.
When the tug-o-war ends, just spin around to take in the 2009 Kiddie Parade which will be coming down Akerson and Sylvan Streets. Parents, if you would like to enter your children in the parade, they ask you to show up at 6:30 sharp on Akerson Street for parade lineup. Friday night there is a dance at Mariner's Moon and there will also be bingo at the Lindstrom Community Center from 8-10 p.m.
Saturday begins with the annual Lindstrom Loppet 5K race. Registration opens at 7 a.m. at the Lakes Area Free Church with the race beginning at 8 sharp. Saturday also plays host to a golf tournament, a classic car show, the arts and craft show I taked about earlier, a basketball tournament at St. Bridgets Chuch, a book sale at the Library, a hot dog eating contest at the Dairy Queen, a very popular cribbage tournament at the Swedish Inn, and the Queen's Tea and Social held for visiting parade royalty. All of these events I have talked about are highlighted on our Karl Oskar Days pages found in this edition of the Press. Saturday evening is everyone's favorite event. The Karl Oskar Parade kicks off at 6 p.m. sharp so be sure to bring your lawn chairs or blankets and get a good spot!
Do not eat breakfast on Sunday morning, take your family to the Masonic Lodge for a wonderful pancake breakfast that runs from 7 a.m. to noon. Walk off those pancakes and stroll down to the arts and crafts fair in the park. Hang around for the Best Pie in Chisago Lakes contest that begins at 1:30 p.m. You can enter your favorite pie for judging at the Chamber of Commerce.
Sunday also has an open trap shoot that is open to the public. There is a small fee, but there is a chance to win prizes. If you do not have ammunition, they will have some for sale. The shoot will take place at the Chisago Lakes Sportsmens Club.
At 6 p.m., be sure to catch the Bald Eagle Water Show held at Beach Park. Get settled in, because following the water show, there will be a Beatles tribute band that will entertain you rght up until the fireworks show at 10. From all accounts, this year's fireworks show promises to be the best ever.
