A group of Lakeside and Taylors Falls Elementary fifth graders competed last month in the annual Math Masters competition, held in St. Paul. Students are selected to compete based on math proficiency and test scores, and compete in both individual and team rounds of competition. A total of 29 teams from public and private schools participated. Lakeside team members (above) included: Team 1: Daniel Streitz, Charlie Olson (7th in individual problem solving), Jessie Tossey, Joe Virga and Zach West; Team 2: Carolyn Katzman, Mike Slater, Jacob Dubose, Claire Dronen and Jacob Doble; Team 3: (placed 8th overall in team competition) Nick Del Giudice, Joe Kimlinger (placed 4th in individual basic facts), Haylie Zollinger, Will Gillach and Seth Bloom (placed 14th in individual problem solving). Lauren Peltier also attended the event for Lakeside as an alternate, but did not compete.
