Dahlquist was born June 18, 1909, at Atlanta, Georgia, to William and Odessa Magnolia (Duren) Suggs. She assisted her family picking cotton in Georgia, Louisiana and Alabama. The family later moved to Calderville, Illinois, where she graduated from high school. Opal married Ellsworth T. Dahlquist September 9, 1944, at Peoria, IL, where they made their home until 1965 when they moved to Lindstrom, Minn.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1990. She continued to make her home at Lindstrom until 2002 when she moved to Olivia to be near her family. Opal resided at Fairview Place for two years and these past four years has been a resident of the Golden Living Center of Olivia.
Opal's faith was very important to her and she was active in the Lutheran Church in each community she had lived in. She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star where she held several offices.
Ellsworth and Opal had enjoyed traveling with friends and she also enjoyed playing canasta, and doing cross-stitch and embroidery projects. Opal was also very gifted at sewing and made her daughter's dance costumes for many years.
Opal is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Alton Kubesh of Olivia; her two grandchildren: Kristen (and Erick) Fennern, of Olivia, and Scott Kubesh (and his special friend Chris Pederson along, with her daughter Alycia Holwerda), of Willmar; her great-grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan and Kaylee Fennern, and Baylie and Carson Kubesh. She is also survived by her dear friend Ardella Reynolds, of Bird Island.
Opal is preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth Dahlquist, her sister Chastine Cognac and her two brothers: Harold Suggs and Thomas "Jack" Barrett Suggs.
Funeral services were March 16 (Sunday) 2 p.m. at Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, Lindstrom, with Rev. Paul Bjorklund officiating. Arrange- ments with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.
