The Chisago U12B girls' hockey team went 2-1 to take third place at the Minnesota State U12B Tournament at the Richfield Ice Arena Friday-Sunday, March 14-16.

In their first game the Wildcats beat Duluth (4-3). The CL team took an early lead and held on to it to move into the semi-final round. Their fast pace skating and excellent defense were keys to the first-round victory.

In the semifinals, Chisago Lakes outshot Mahtomedi and controlled most of the play. However, the Zephyrs scored in overtime to secure a 2-1 win and move into the finals.

The game was a scoreless tie until the Zephyrs went up with a goal in the third period. Chisago Lakes answered quickly to tie it at one. Neither team scored the go-ahead goal in regulation, sending the teams into overtime.

With 18 seconds to go in overtime Mahtomedi scored, to pin a heartbreaking loss on the Wildcats and send them to Sunday's third place game.winning the heartbreaker .

In the final game of the U12's 2007-2008 season, they again came out strong and gained a lead over Minnetonka. But, the Skippers wouldn't go away quietly. They put away three goals into the CL net, but the Wildcats held their lead to capture third place game by a 5-3 score.

The entire Chisago Lakes community can be very proud of this super group of athletes! Congratulations, girls, on a fantastic season!
