Young Wildcat team celebrates "fun year" at awards banquet
"We had a lot of young guys in the lineup," said Frederixon. 'There was a big learning curve involved. But we had some pretty good seniors who carried us through a lot of victories. They set a tone for the way we carried ourselves throughout the season. We had a fun year. We had a lot of good dual meets this season. We came up a couple of points short in three of our conference duals, against North Branch, Spring Lake Park and Totino Grace. If we had won one more individual match in each of those three duals, we would have been co-conference champs."
Troy Montague led the team in pins for the second straight season, with 28.
Frederixon continued, "Clay Olson had over 20 wins as a sophomore in his first varsity season." Pao Thao, Travis Kammerer and Derek Silbernagel will have to help to carry us next year. We're going to have quite a few younger wrestlers, especially in the upper weights, and we'll have to fill in the middle weights. There could be some wild matches next year, but it will definitely be a lot of fun."
