The Chisago Lakes boys tennis team is still searching for that one point that is going to put them over the top.

After dropping a 4-3 decision to Princeton on Thursday, May 15, the Wildcats suffered through another heart-breaking one point loss to the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets on Friday, May 16.

After dropping the first three singles matches, Cameron Bouwens came through with a big win at fourth singles to keep the Wildcats afloat. Bouwens cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

"Cam has just been solid for us," Coach Corey McKinnon said. "It's so important to get someone who can put the ball into play and win at fourth singles."

The first two doubles teams also picked up some Wildcat slack, winning handily over their Tiger counterparts.

Kyle Hogie and Jake Spehar at first doubles spiked, served and swatted their way to an easy 6-0, 6-2 victory.

At second doubles, Matt Jorgenson and Jeremy Patterson ran their Tiger opponents roughshod, picking up a 6-4, 6-2 win to pull even with the Tigers.

But, the Wildcats couldn't complete the comeback over Princeton, and they dropped the 4-3 decision.

"Our doubles teams looked strong. They both took control early and just kept pounding on the nets," McKinnon pointed out. "They just found a way to keep their opponents on their heels."

"The match against Cambridge was basically a carbon copy of the Princeton match," said McKinnon.

The score was 4-3, the winners were the same, and they all won in straight sets again. But the same problem of not earning that fourth point still lingered.

Bouwens won easily at fourth singles again, downing his Bluejacket opposite 6-1, 6-1.

Both doubles teams had little trouble in dispatching their opponents also. Hogie and Spehar won 6-1, 6-2, and Jorgenson and Patterson won 6-4, 6-2.

"We just need to find that fourth point," McKinnon said, noting that he plans on making changes for the section match-ups because he feels his doubles team might be too strong.

The section began on Tuesday, May 20 as the Wildcats had a quick rematch with Princeton, looking to win when it counted the most.

On Wednesday, May 21, the individual section began, and Chisago Lakes had six kids in the tournament in Andover including James Taylor and Keegan Star in singles competition, and the teams of Spehar and Hogie and Jorgenson and Patterson hitting doubles.
