Students in grades 1-5 are encouraged to submit an illustrated story to be entered into the contest for the Newbery Award (for writing) and Caldecott Award (for illustrations). Winners were selected from each participating classroom and given a certificate of appreciation.
Winners and the title of their stories: First grade- My Trip to Iowa by Lindsey Craig, The Family Trip by Lindsey Clasen, Buddha by Rayvette DeNio, My Dog by Leah De La Rosa, Me and my Sister by Karissa Young and My Trip to Colorado by Brooke Fricke
Second grade- Arthur Goes Camping by Cole Glenna, The Slumber Party by Alyssa Bank, A Day at the Beach by Greta Johnson, Arthur Goes to Hawaii by Iris Redland, and a "Pulitzer Prize Award" (for journalistic writing) "Lunch Lady Loves Her Job at TFE" by Caisa Strenke
Third grade- Summer Surprise by Sarah Craig, The Only Sunflower Who Could Talk by Peyton Krafve, Camping with the Bears by Lisa Abascal-Larson, The Bloody Shoe by Matt Jerrard, Lost in Colorado by Ariel Trudeau and A Day at Coco Beach by Kaelyn Plank
Fourth grade- One of a Kind Horse by Sarah Plank, Princess Carly by Megan Malaski, Eight Seconds by Jacob Gardner and Divorce Ruins Everything by Angel Unis
