Packed with big schools and talented teams, the Wildcats figured anything short of their best wouldn't quite work out. And it ended up being tougher than even they though it would be.
"The course is short, and not very difficult, and the conditions were decent" Coach Jeanne Hawkinson said. "But, we just couldn't score. It's the biggest tournament we play all year, and the girls are bound to be nervous."
The Wildcats shot a 406 to finish in seventh place in the section. Forest Lake led the first day, and never loosened their stranglehold on the rest of the field, winning with a 333-343-676.
Megan Corradi did shoot well enough to advance to the second day, and she shot even better on that second day, but it wasn't enough to overcome some of the top individual scores of the tournament.
Her two-day total for the tournament was 49-45-94 on the first day, and 47-43-90 on the second day.
"She has worked hard, played in the summer, practiced, and it showed," Hawkinson said of Corradi. "Even though her section scores weren't her best, it was enough to place her 11th of 60 golfers. This is a huge accomplishment, and I'm very happy for her and proud of her.
Krista Liebsch just missed advancing to the second day, as she shot a 47-51-98 in the opening round.
"She's been close to great scores all season," Hawkinson said. "As a junior she has another to make it happen. I'm excited to see how she does."
Forest Lake's Betsy Kelly occupied the top individual spot for the duration of the tournament, shooting a 71-78-149. Her score was 12 strokes up on the second place finisher.
