Esther graduated from high school in Chisago City in 1925 and was the class salutatorian. She then matriculated at Miss Woods Kindergarten School in Minneapolis, after which she taught school at the elementary level for a time. Later she became a telephone operator for the Chisago City Telephone Company. After the death of Mr. Asp in 1944, Esther continued to live at home with her mother, until her death in 1965.
Esther was one of the original tenants in the Heather Creek apartment complex in Chisago City, and was very happy to finally have a real place of her own. There she raised beautiful African violets and other flowers. She was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, having been baptized and confirmed there. For some years she played the piano for services at the Parmly Chapel.
She relocated to the Parmly Lifepointes Residence in 1999, and passed away there November 8, 2008, just nine days short of her 101st birthday. Funeral services were November 12 at the Parmly Lifepointes Chapel, Chaplain Ron Gerl officiating. Burial at South Green Lake Cemetery.
Esther is survived by nieces Margaret Bast and Caroline Montgomery, and nephews; David Lilygren, J. Herbert Johnson and Paul Johnson, in addition to a number of grand-nieces, nephews and their families. Esther loved children and always enjoyed being at family gatherings. She will be missed by family and friends.
