Check out this year's Gift Guide, get coloring and win some money
John has lived on Green Lake for 22 years and has always felt that the name "Green" is degrading to such a beautiful lake. His objective is to have those who live on the lake suggest possible name changes and then have the public vote. The Chisago City Council asked John to poll the community and they would consider it.
Here is where you come in. You can go to chisagosgreenlake.blogspot.com to cast your vote. There are already three names to vote on and you are encouraged to give your own suggestion. The three names so far are: Lindberg Lake - named after Karl Lindberg, a community activist. Kichi Saga Lake - an Indian name where the word Chisago originated. Ojiketa Lake - named after the beautiful piece of land that is being pursued as a park for residents.
If you have a second, log onto Mr. Esmay's website and cast your vote.
On last week's front page, we had some really great photos and a write up about local Vets. One of the photos showed two local Vets and Corporal Benson's mother. Our cutline read that they placed a wreath at the site that serves as a tribute to Johnathon Benson. It should have read that the site was installed as a tribute to all who were killed or missing in action. If this caused any confusion to anyone, we apologize.
This week the County Press is proud to present our annual Gift Guide. Our ad department has been working hand in hand with local businesses to bring you the only local shopping guide around. In the Gift Guide you will find ads from local businesses offering you all kinds of goods and services. Most businesses will have special holiday hours for you to take advantage of.
We have so many great businesses in our area, not finding presents for your loved ones can not be used as an excuse. I think you will find that the businesses in our area are competitively priced on most goods and services. This Christmas, why not purchase some or all of your presents from our neck of the woods. Along with keeping your neighbors in business, you will be keeping our wonderful small community afloat. Oh, and not to mention the gas money you will save shopping locally.
In the gift guide you will find our annual coloring contest. This is a great chance for your child to show off their coloring skills and possibly win some money. If your child's picture is selected, they will win a $50 savings bond from a local bank. Last year we had around 50 entries and this year we are expecting even more.
