Marlys Edith Trombley (nee Johnson) of Chisago Lakes died surrounded by her family on November 17, 2008. Marlys was born December 18, 1924 in Almelund, Minnesota the third child of Emerick and Sadie (Rystrom) Johnson.

Marlys spent her growing up years helping her family on the farm in Almelund. From 1945 to 1949 Marlys was in the tuberculosis facility in Ah-Gwah-Ching, Minnesota. Tuberculosis took part of Marlys' lung, but it did not take her spirit. She spoke fondly about her time at the facility and about the handicraft skills she learned there.

On April 18,1964, Marlys married Richard Edward Trombley at St. Bridget's of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Their children are Tim, Gretchen, and Tom. In addition, Marlys and Rick fostered over 20 youth including Susan Valleen.

After marrying Rick, Marlys converted to Catholicism. She was proud to be a member of St. Bridget's. Besides volunteering at St. Bridget's, Marlys was active in the Forest Lake VFW post 4210 Ladies Auxiliary. As part of the Auxiliary, Marlys visited nursing homes and participated in Forest Lake's annual Fourth of July parade. In addition she volunteered in various activities around the Chisago Lakes Community.

Marlys is preceded in death by her parents Emerick and Sadie Johnson, her siblings Carl Johnson, Mae Anderson, and Myrtle Johnson and her grandson Evan Mundt.

Marlys is survived by her children Tim, Gretchen (Wayne) Jeska, Tom (Susie), and Susan (Robert) Mundt, and grandchildren: Justin, Brennan, Ethan, and Leah Mundt, Jake and Luke Jeska, and Margaret, Edward, and Charles Trombley. Marlys is also survived by her sister's children Shirley Nelson and Ronald Anderson as well as many other nieces and nephews. Marlys was fortunate to have special friends Becky, Jeff, Calvin, and Chyanne Gordon. She also held special regard for the caregivers and her fellow residents and friends at the Margaret S. Parmly Residence.

Visitation for Marlys will be Thursday, Nov. 20 (today) from 4-7 p.m. at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, and one hour prior to the funeral. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at St. Bridget's of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom. A private internment at South Green Lake Cemetery will be at a later date.
