Did you happen to catch that Wildcat football game last Friday? I have not heard any numbers as of yet, but it sure looked like over 3,000 people to me. I have been to hundreds of Trojan and Wildcat games over the years, and this was easily the most fans I have ever seen.

The school and the Gridiron Club did a terrific job with all of the pre-game activities including free brats. The dedication was also very well done with Principal Ertl giving a nice speech and a ribbon cutting that included some individuals that were instrumental in the construction of the new stadium.

What a beautiful stadium they have built. Without the track running in between the stands and the field, it feels like you are right on the field with the players. The turf looks like real grass and plays like it from what I am told. Besides the loss to Irondale, the night was an utter success. Every person around me in the stands was having a great time. Hopefully the fans will continue to come out and support Coach Weiss and the Wildcats, because having that many fans can really change momentum in a game.

Unfortunately, we will have only one more chance to cheer on the Wildcat football team this year. Next Wednesday is the Wildcat's last home game of the season. They will be hosting Columbia Heights. The game is on Wednesday because of MEA week, the students have the rest of the week off. Like last Friday, there will be another pre-game activity for your family. The Wildcat boys basketball team will be holding their 17th annual Spaghetti Dinner. The dinner is in the Senior High cafeteria and begins at 4:30 p.m. The dinner runs until 6:45 p.m. and includes salad, spaghetti, brownies, bread and refreshments. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for kids 6-12 , and 5 and under eat free.

Shafer Days had a wonderful day on Saturday for their celebration. Thank you to the great people of Shafer for all of their hard work at Shafer Days. This year there were more activities for visitors than ever before. You should be proud of your accomplishments and know that we the public really enjoy coming to Shafer Days,

In this edition of the County Press, you will find our Gear up for Winter car care section. As winter approaches, there are some precautionary things we should have done to our vehicles to ensure a safe, reliable and warm winter behind the wheel. As you hopefully know, our area has some really wonderful mechanics and body shops. If I was asked to name one quality the local mechanics have that mechanics elsewhere do not, without hesitation I would say honesty. People tell me all the time that they can't believe how fix-it shops around here do not try to oversell goods and services that are not needed.

In the section you will find a bunch of those businesses I am referring to. Personally I have used most of the car shops and have never been disappointed. Whether your car needs a new set of tires or you need your heating and cooling system flushed, we can help. Give one of these fine auto places a call, you will be glad you did.

The Lindstrom Fire Department would like to invite you to a pig roast tomorrow night. They are holding the roast in the hopes of raising funds to purchase an air boat. With the budgets being so tight lately, this is the only way they can raise enough money for the boat. The boat will be used for lake rescues and especially comes in handy when the ice is very thin and other vehicles can not go on the ice. The boat would be available if an emergency would happen in nearby cities and towns also. The pig roast starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. at the Lindstrom Fire Hall.

A sign that I am getting old. The Vikings played on Monday night and with the score tied 20 to 20 I went to bed. Another sign, when speaking to our sports editor at work about a television show that was popular when we were teenagers, he says "I would probably like that show, but it was on before I was born". Yet another sign, when coaching my flag football team last weekend, one of the fourth graders says in the huddle "How can you remember our names with all of that gray hair?" Nice.
