North Branch 4, Camb./Isanti 1

The Vikings started things off on the right foot this season - the right foot of Brian Grand, that is. Grand scored three goals to lead the Vikings to a 4-1 win over Cambridge-Isanti Tuesday, August 26 at North Branch.

Cambridge scored on a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead in the first half. But Grand scored on two breakaways to give the Vikings a 2-1 halftime lead. In the second half, Grand scored on a scramble in front of the Bluejacket net after a corner kick. Nick Miller scored the Vikings fourth goal to make the final score North Branch 4, Cambridge-Isanti 1.

"We outshot Cambridge 10-1 in a jamboree the weekend before this game" said Viking head coach Peter Grand. "We dominated them in this game, as well. "We had a lot of scoring opportunities, but weren't able to finish as many plays as we should have. I told the players that we need to take advantage of as many scoring opportunities as possible because we might only get a few good scoring chances against some of the better teams."

The Vikings were scheduled to travel to Fridley to take on the Fridley Tigers Tuesday. This afternoon (Sept. 4), they'll host Irondale at 5 p.m. Monday, September 8 they'll go back to Fridley, this time to face perennial conference power Totino-Grace at 7 p.m.
