We are well into the first month of school and I am pleased to report that we had a very smooth transition from summer vacation to the new school year.
Thanks to the many staff members who prepared our facilities, ordered needed materials and made the preparations required to start the new school year off right.
Thanks to all of our parents who also prepared their students to begin the new school year. Your role is critically important to ensuring student success and we appreciate the work done at home on behalf of the school.
Our facility projects that began last spring are wrapping up and in many instances have been completed. New roofs, new parking lots, and new windows were installed over the summer months as well as many other improvements to our five school buildings.
The classroom addition at Taylors Falls Elementary is taking shape with student occupancy planned for the middle of October. What a wonderful improvement the addition will be over the previous portable classrooms which were in use for many years.
One of the more dramatic improvements being made can be found at the Chisago Lakes High School where in addition to new roofs and parking lot improvements, additional athletic and physical education fields are being constructed. The new Chisago Lakes High School Stadium is nearly completed and when finished will be one of the finest facilities of its type in the region.
Thanks again to everyone in our school district for your support in allowing these improvements to take place.
Academically, we have begun a major teacher staff development initiative that will hopefully enhance the already great job our teachers do in the classroom every day. The initiative known as Q-Comp / ATPPS was promoted by Governor Pawlenty and emphasizes teachers reviewing the instruction of their peers, meeting in learning communities to address specific building goals, and striving toward achieving specific academic targets in each school building. We are also introducing a new math curriculum that has been researched by staff and adopted as an improvement over our previous math program.
Our administrators, teachers and support staff are all committed to providing excellent service to our students and families and they encourage your feedback and communication.
We encourage parents to contact us with any concerns or to let us know how the services we provide to the community may be improved upon.
Lastly, please accept this invitation to visit the schools in our district. We are proud of the efforts that we make each day with our students and recognize that the support of the community can only help to enhance those efforts.
Thanks again to the many businesses, civic organizations and volunteers who will assist the school staff this year. We appreciate your support and we hope to see you at school events this year. Best wishes to everyone for a great school year.
Thanks to the Chisago County Press for allowing me the opportunity to welcome back all of our students and their families to the new school year and for allowing me to update everyone in our school community on the many developments of the past summer.
