Under sunny skies and with cool breezes, more than 150 golfers turned out on Monday, August 17 for the 21st annual Tee Up for Hospice Golf Tournament hosted by Fairview Lakes HomeCaring & Hospice.

Over the years, the event has raised more than $200,000 to support hospice services. Proceeds of the golf benefit help support bereavement and volunteer services provided by Fairview Lakes HomeCaring & Hospice and Camp Triumph, a weekend camp for grieving children.

This year's tournament, held at Chisago Lakes Golf Course in Lindstrom, memorialized the late Carol Johnson, long-time Tee Up for Hospice committee member and hospice volunteer, who lost her life to cancer earlier this year. Carol and her husband Doug have been strong supporters of hospice, according to Darcy Nelson, Fairview Lakes hospice coordinator.

Other major sponsors are Plastic Products Corporation, Zinpro, Wally Carlson & Sons BP, The RiverBank, First State Bank of Wyoming, Unity Bank and Fairview Lakes Health Services/Fairview Sports & Orthopedic Care. Many other area businesses sponsor holes, events and donate prizes.

Winning trophies this year were:

Men's Division (front nine)-First place, in a tie breaker, 7 under par with 7 birdies, Todd Anderson, Ryan Brandt, Tony Randall, Bob Jennissen and Jim Casterton; second place, 7 under with 7 birdies, Dave Milbrandt, Sue Nielsen, Dan Anderson, Tony Gencia, and Dave Dobosenski.

Women's Division (back nine)--First place: one over, Ellen Wilcox, Michele Hansen, Jen Barie, Julie Armitage and Kathy Pharmer; second place, two over, Stacy Ernest, Sue Larsen, Shari Grandstrand, Linda Gallatin and Margaret Corradi.

Mixed Men's and Women's Division (back nine)-- First place, in a tie breaker at four under with one eagle and two birdies, the Zinpro team, Jon Morrison, Ron Rose, Ralph and Michele Determan and Jennifer Gagne; second place, four under with two birdies and one eagle, the Pauley family, Don, Marie, Tim and Jon Pauley and Sue Schockley.

No one scored a hole-in-one on either nine to win $2,000 in cash sponsored by Fairview Sports and Orthopedic Care and Riverbank; however, golfer Ryan Brandt proved he can not only drive the golf ball but a marshmallow, winning longest drive in the fairway, longest drive in the rough, closest to the pin and the marshmallow drive game (for the second consecutive year).

Winning the drawing for Timberwolves tickets was Rick Carlson; Dan Dufour won a gift certificate from Brinks.
