Looking for a place to celebrate New Years? Look no farther than the Chisago Lakes area

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. Mother Nature tried her best to alter our Christmas, but it looked like most of us made it around alright.

My family decided to venture out on Christmas Eve down to Mankato to see our in-laws. Not sure what to expect, and more than a little nervous about having my grandmother along for the ride, we decided that if it was too bad, we would just turn around and come home.

Right around the 35 split, we got caught behind eight snow plows. The plows were lined up all across the freeway with two trailing behind. Everytime the plows passed an off ramp, one of the two in the rear would swoop up and plow the ramps. We were amazed at what a precise system these plow drivers have, and even more impressed on how perfectly clean the freeway was behind them.

Our trip took an hour more than normal, and with the exception of some crazy drivers passing us, it went pretty smooth.

I know that I write about my grandmother quite often in this space, but there is a reason. She is one of the most amazing people I have ever met, and she never ceases to amaze me. At 92 years of age, she has the stamina and the where with all of a 30 year old. Every person that meets her can not believe her age. She is constantly telling me that you are only as old as you feel. How true. To sit and watch my children play with their great grandmother, who is 82 years older than them, is well, unexplainable. The kids have a bond with her that is so strong, you would swear she helped raise them. Thank you Gram for a wonderful Christmas, I hope we have many. many more in the future.

If you and your family are looking for some entertainment this New Year's Eve and weekend, why not look locally? We have some tremendous restaurants in our area that would make a perfect night out for you and your family. Think about it, in our area, you can eat anything ranging from enchiladas to steak, to a fantastic fish dinner. It's all here in our backyard. Here is another thought. Why not try a restaurant locally that you have not been to before? If you are like me, you find something good and stick with it. Why not try a different restaurant? You might be very pleasantly surprised. In this edition of the Press, you will find many of these great restaurants offering New Year specials, why not give one a try?

We are still waiting to hear from Allison Baxter. She is one of the three winners of our Gift Guide Coloring Contest. We have already given out prizes to Ethan Swanson and Delton Kahle. If you know Allison or her family, please tell her to come into the Press and claim her prize.

The Press is pleased to announce a new columnist. Heidi LaMeyer is the new Director of Community Connections at Parmly Lifepointes. She will be writing a column on active aging. You might remember Patricia Montgomery had a similar column a while back.

We are very excited to have Heidi writing for us. Make sure you give her articles a read, she has some wonderful information to share.

We have received a few donations of used t-shirts already here at the Press. If you have some used t-shirts that do not have any holes, you are encouraged to bring them into the Press. We will then get them to a group of women who will turn them into diapers for Third World countries. It is a wonderful program and an easy way to clean your closets.

One of my favorite presents this Christmas was bought locally. I received a pair of moccasins that were purchased at Sven's in Chisago City. They are beautifully constructed and most importantly warm. Just more proof that locally we have some of the greatest businesses around.
