Wildcats' wild swim week caps off perfect NSC season so far
With the Chisago Lakes swimming and diving team mending wounds and curing sickness, they struggled at the C-I Invite last week.
Five varsity swimmers all stayed home from the meet because of various ailments, and it showed in the standings as CL finishing eighth out of 10 teams
"We are looking more like a triage center than a swim team right now," Head Coach Mark Nordby said. "We left five of our guys home and we had to scratch many events. We didn't even have a backstroker lister and our 'A' lineup was scratched in the 400 freestyle relay.
Ryan Smith, David Donahue, Ryan Einburger, Alex Vitalis and Joey Eikens all stayed home from the C-I meet. "Each one of them probably would have scored points and our relays were very much affected," Nordby said. "So, we're just trying to get healthy again before our big push to end the season."
Only two swimmers, Kevin Roggemann and Brody Heggerston (pictured below, left to right with Coach Nordby) were able to medal in the stacked meet.
The first medal came from Roggemann, who finished in third place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.94 seconds.
The second one was a silver medal for Heggerston in the next event. Heggerston used his long length to place second in the 100-yard freestyle. His time of 52.27 was only two seconds behind the winner, Lucas Brandt of Cambridge-Isanti.
Benilde-St. Margaret's
The Wildcats narrowly kept their perfect NSC record alive with a come-from-behind victory over the Red Knights. "We squeaked it out, but it wasn't easy," Nordby said.
