Senior lineman Mike Johnson and senior running back Chad Anderson both signed letter of intents to play college football.
The two departing players will be sorely missed next year. Johnson, a six-foot, seven inch, 300-pound mauler cleared holes that a mid-sized car could fit through. Anderson was the beneficiary of a lot of those seams, as him and fellow backfield mate Zack Smith ran wild for the red-and-white.
Johnson, from Center City, signed his letter to play for the University of Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles, a Division II school that is in Crookston, MN, and is a branch of the University of Minnesota.
Johnson knew Crookston was right for him from the start. "I like how the campus is set up, and it really just fit with my major," he said. Johnson will be majoring in the agricultural field.
The Golden Eagles will also provide opportunties for the big man. "It's a pretty young team, and in the coming years, they may be very good," Morrison said. "I just want to get in and play and help build a team that has a winning record."
Anderson, who got looks from colleges as a safety and running back, signed with St. Scholastica and their budding football program. The team just began play last year.
Anderson expects to be competing for playing time early, as St. Scholastica's only running back is a senior. He will also be majoring in either nursing or pre-med. "I just want to go up there and help them really build a good team," Anderson said of his choice of the Duluth school.
Both players give a lot of credit to first year Viking Head Coach Phil Link with their opportunities.
"Coach was just amazing this year, he just knew what he was doing and knew it needed to get done," Anderson and Johnson said.
