Two wins, including one NSC tilt, plus a tourney title equals CL success
Zupko, Thao, Kammerer, Olson and Nase all break 20-win plateau with strong week
The outcome was never in doubt as the Wildcats wrestled two undermanned opponents last Thursday, January 15 at Chisago Lakes High School. The Wildcats opened the evening with a 55-12 win over Columbia Heights, including eight Columbia Heights forfeits. Clay Olson (171) provided one of the individual highlights of the match. The Hylanders' Sean Anderson beat Olson in a match last year, and Olson returned the favor with a 12-0 major decision over Anderson in Tuesday night's match.
The Wildcats then went on to beat Patrick Henry 63-9 in another match featuring a bunch of forfeits. Pao Thao (112) and Tyler Heckel (125) each pinned their opponents, providing the crowd with some excitement.
"It was a quick night," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "The matches we did wrestle provided some good matchups for us."

Hinckley Finlayson Jaguar Invitational
The Wildcats overcame a two-point deficit going into the final round to win the nine-team Hinckley Finlayson Jaguar Invitation for the second year in a row last Saturday, January 20 at Hinckley. They outpointed the host Jaguars 207.5 to 191.5 to capture the title.
The Wildcats and the Jaguars had six wrestlers each wrestling for first place in the final round, including three head-to-head matchups between the two teams. The Wildcats won all three of the head-to-head matchups and one other match for four first place finishes while Hinckley had no first place finishes, giving the Wildcats their margin of victory. At just12 of the 14 weights, but all 12 wrestlers placed. "With all of our wrestlers placing," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon, "everybody scored points so everybody played a part in the team win. This tournament was a lot more competitive than it was last year, so this is a good win for us. A lot of our fans showed up to cheer us on and we had a good time."
The Wildcats first-place finishers were Pao Thao (112), Travis Kammerer (145), Clay Olson (171) and Jake Nase (215). Riley Myers (152) and Dylan Hoyt (285) also wrestled in the final round and each finished second.

The Wildcat grapplers have a busy week ahead of them. They were scheduled to wrestle against Cloquet and Braham at the Cloquet Triangular this past Tuesday, January 20. Tonight they'll head down to Irondale to take on the Knights in a North Suburban Conference matchup at 7 p.m. Tomorrow night they'll grapple with conference foe St. Francis and powerful Foley in the St. Francis Triangular starting at 5 p.m. And they'll finish the week off at the Henry Sibley Invitational, with the festivities beginning early in the morning on Saturday, January 24.
