The Vikings soundly defeated the undermanned Irondale Knights 51-21 in a dual meet last Friday, January 23 at North Branch High School. "This was a pretty decent performance from our team," said Viking head coach Tony Aho. "But we have a lot of things to improve upon. Tom Mork had a good pin against a pretty physical Irondale opponent. Erik Chouinard did a pretty good job in his 189 pound match."

Cambridge-Isanti Tournament
Wrestling against tough competition, the Class AA Vikings went 0-3 in the Cambridge-Isanti Tournament last Saturday, January 24. They lost to a tough Class AA Delano team 41-28, fell 40-24 to the sixth-ranked Class AAA team in the state, Centennial, then succumbed to another Class AAA squad, Forest Lake, 43-33 to finish the day.
"Although we did not win today," said Viking head coach Tony Aho, "it was a good learning experience for our young team. There were a lot of quality wrestlers at the Cambridge tournament and most of our kids looked like they could compete at that level. We just need to continue to work hard at practice and when the season ends, our guys need to lift weights intensely. John Morrison, Jake Kostik and Boyd Suparat all went undefeated on the day. Also, Joe Call, Mike Johnson, and Shawn Mukunza led the JV to a very nice showing in the junior varsity portion of the tournament."
