The local Vets need your help; Harmony in the Park is back
On Memorial Day, after the memorial at Fairview Cemetery in Lindstrom, someone decided to steal the bronze stars that are placed at graves of military people. I know what some of you are thinking, things get taken from cemeteries all the time. Maybe so. But on this day, the person(s) who took the stars didn't just take one or two, they cleared an entire section of the cemetery. That's right, they stole 26 bronze stars and 34 U.S. flags.
The kicker is, they did it in broad daylight. The thieves took the stars and flags shortly after the memorial and before the Fairview memorial service at the All Veterans Memorial. That leaves a window of about two to three hours.
Of all the things one could possibly steal, they had to pick deceased veteran's stars? One can only hope that someone decided to help pick up the stars to give back to Mark Campbell, and hopefully forgot about them. Because to think someone actively stole these stars to recycle for a few dollars sickens my stomach.
Here is where you can help. If you happened to be at, or drove by Fairview Cemetery between the time of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Memorial Day Monday, we would like to talk to you. If you have any information whatsoever, please call us at 651-257-5115. If you want to return the stars there will be no questions asked.
If you did take the stars and flags and people somehow find out, well let's just hope the police get a hold of you before our local Vets do.
Despite the lack of rain, Summer is upon us. With school letting out this week, and temps starting to rise, that can only mean one thing. It's time for Harmony in the Park.
Lindstrom has once again teamed up with some wonderful sponsors to bring you this great event that has really grown in popularity over the past few years.
Harmony in the Park takes place in the bandshell at Lions Park in Lindstrom. It features great music every Wednesday evening beginning at 7 p.m. with refreshments available.
The series kicks off tonight with the Mouldy Figs, a jazz dixieland band. Next week will feature the St. Croix Valley Orchestra. You will be receiving a Harmony in the Park flyer in your Search Shopper this weekend. I urge you to keep it and tape it to your refrigerator, so that you won't miss a single show.
I have been to quite a few shows in the recent past. They are a wonderful way to get out, see your friends, and hear some really great music. The best part? It's free.
The Press would like to congratulate the graduating classes of Chisago Lakes and North Branch. We here at the Press hope you have a wonderful life after high school. No matter which direction you choose, whether it is college or entering the work force, we hope you choose to make a difference. Find something other than making money, that you are passionate about and use that to make a difference in this world. Too many times, we get so wrapped up in our immediate lives that we lose focus of the things that really bring us joy. Maybe you will choose to volunteer, maybe you will choose to coach a sport, or maybe you will decide to mentor someone, it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that you act upon it. You do not have to dedicate every waking hour to it, but even a small amount of time given can make a difference in someone's life.
Speaking of graduates, the Press would like to congratulate two of our own. Alex Carlson whose mom Becky works at the Press, and Larry Gibbs, whose mom Cathy also works here at the Press, recently graduated from Chisago Lakes Senior High. They are both great kids with wonderful futures.
