Second and third graders attend Enrichment Day sessions

Jim Van Hoven, chairmaker: Van Hoven produces hand-crafted 18th century period furniture using tools from that era. He brought a variety of tools and wood samples and allowed the students to try their hand at creating a wood spill used to light candles and lamps in the pre-electricity era.
Lyn Leopold, scientist: Leopold drew upon her experiences as a former DNR employee on Minnesota's Iron Range, and discussed Minnesota rocks and mining with the students. In addition to bringing in several rock samples, she had students "mine" granola bars by removing chocolate chips, marshmallows, etc with toothpicks.
Sue Abrahamson, dairy farmer: Abrahamson shared information about dairy farm operations and how dairy products are processed. She also brought pictures, displays and a book about dairy farming.
Keith Velaski, North Air Care: Velaski is a flight nurse who provides emergency medical care in helicopters during airlift situations. He spoke with students about his career.
Patti McLoughlin, North Meadow Music: McLoughlin, a former music teacher, gives private music lessons for traditional and Suzuki violin. She introduced students to the violin and fiddle, and was joined by her husband, Superintendent Mike McLoughlin, to perform some Irish music.
Life Link III Ambulance Crew: Paramedics and emergency medical technicians from Life Link III of St. Croix Regional Medical Center discussed their duties and gave students an ambulance tour.
