He was born to Alvin and Lorraine (Conrad) Meyer in Wood Lake, Minnesota who later moved to the Almelund area where Gail was raised. Upon graduating from North Branch High School he entered the Air Force in 1964, retiring in 1991. He was a jet engine mechanic for six years later cross-training to be a flight engineer on C-141 Starlifter Aircraft for 21 years which enabled him to travel worldwide. He loved to fly and would go whenever called spending 11,000 hours in the air. His most rewarding flight was bringing home 20 Vietnam POW's from Hawaii to the Continental U.S. His military careeer was spent in various places most of which were in San Bernardino, CA and Altus, OK. He spent 10 years retired and then married his loving wife Verna in Vernon, TX and later moved to Taylors Falls. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenny Meyer.
Gail is survived by his wife Verna, stepsons, Randy (Sheryl) Moey of Gordon, WI; Rick (Debbie) Moey of Taylors Falls; grandchildren, Brittany Moey, Ricky Moey, Connor Moey; sisters, Illa (Don) Torgerson of Anoka; Monica (Jim) Miller of Pine City; LuAnn (friend Arnie Blaskowski) Meyer of North Branch, Kari (Doug) Johnson of Shafer; nephew Shawn Torgerson, nieces, Sara Torgerson, Jaclyn Miller, Ericka Miller, Christina Loyas, Jennifer (Don) Andersen and Robin Johnson, four great nephews, four great nieces, many cousins and countless friends.
Funeral services were Monday, March 23, 2009 from Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch with Rev. Ed Wheatley officiating. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. Serving as casketbearers were Doug Johnson, Shawn Torgerson, Jim Miller, Bryan Peterson, Jerome Peltier and Tom Remer.
