Lakeside School is one of many schools in Minnesota implementing a program called Behavior Positive Interventions Support (PBIS). As part of this program, Lakeside focused on its own priorities of showing Lakeside P.R.I.D.E. which stands for Positive Attitude, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence. Students learn these what these words mean using mini-lessons throughout the year as well as in teachable moments that arise during the school day. Previously, students earned a wrist band for being able to name what each letter of PRIDE stands for in the acronym. Starting last week, if a student is "caught being good" by demonstrating one or more of these qualities, the teacher sends home a positive postcard to the family and the student receives a free locally printed t-shirt that says "I have Lakeside Pride." By the end of the school year, it is expected that all Lakeside students will have a new shirt. On the first day of this phase of the program, four students earned a Lakeside Pride T-shirt. They were awarded to third graders Trevor Hansen and Ryan Marx, fourth grader Emily Kilpela and fifth grader C. J. Haskins for demonstrating PRIDE while at school.
Funds for PBIS are generously donated by the Chisago Lakes Parent Teacher Organization.
