With an 18-hole challenge in front of them, the North Branch girls golf team stumbled their way to an eighth place finish when two of their top golfers, Emily Juve and Laurel Dresel, didn't participate.
"We just had a tough week," Head Coach Dave Ambers said. "I suppose we could blame it on the cold and windy weather or the fact that we played without two of our top golfers, but everybody else played in the same weather, and we just have to learn to put our best effort forward , regardless of who else is on the team that day."
Katie Foley golfed, however, and she golfed impressively. She shot a 44-47-91, Her round put her among the top ten in the conference, which is right where Ambers thinks she belongs. With Juve and Dresel out, Cassedy Coleman had the next lowest score for the Vikings, carding a 54-58-112 at Bunker Hills.
The Vikings finished with a total of 458, which left them in eighth place out of nine teams.
NSC Meet at Victory Links
Although the Vikings got Juve and Dresel back for their meet at Victory Links, they were missing Foley due to an injury.
With Foley down for the day, Dresel led the Vikings in scoring, carding a 57 at the nine-hole meet.
North Branch again finished in eighth place, but they were over 30 strokes out of seventh place, something Ambers said they'll need to improve on as the season winds down. "We're capable of much better golf and I'm confident that we'll bounce back and do that for the rest of the season," he said. The girls had two meets this week already, and they'll close the regular season out with a conference meet on Thursday, May 14.
