The horses were off and the money was flying at the opening day of racing at Running Aces Harness Track in Forest Lake.

On Friday, May 15, despite a heavy downpour that marred most of the mid-afternoon, the horses and their jockeys took to the soggy track to begin the racing season in style.

The betting lobby was packed to the brim, and there was plenty of brave souls who ventured outside to watch the racing from the rail despite the wet and chilly conditions.

The horse track, which just opened last year, hosted eight races on the night beginning at 7 p.m. The track keeps a standard schedule with eight races on Friday and Saturday night, as well as eight more on Sunday afternoon.

Running Aces also boasts a card room that features poker, blackjack and various other card games, as well as a restuarant, a bar and plenty of snack stations.
