Secretary of State Mark Ritchie met with high school pages serving in the State House of Representatives on Apr. 30. Nick Engelbrekt of Chisago (Chisago Lakes Senior High School) was among participants visiting Secretary Ritchie. "It is so great to see our next generation take an active interest in government," Ritchie said. "Their talent, work and commitment to civic engagement will prepare them for leadership positions in the future and inspire others to service." Created in 1975, the high school page program provides hundreds of high school juniors an opportunity to receive hands-on experience in state government. Participants come from communities across Minnesota to St. Paul to spend one week developing their leadership skills by performing real functions for the legislature, learning how the legislative process works, and meeting with elected officials. Students receive a small stipend to help defray the financial cost of participation.
