You may or may not know, but next week, our area will play host to a once in a lifetime event. The "Wall That Heals" will be coming to town on Tuesday. The Wall That Heals is a 250 foot replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. It will be accompanied by a motorcycle rally and police escort.

The Wall will be set up on Wednesday with a media reception that afternoon.

Thursday, the Wall opens for public viewing and will be on display around the clock. There will be people reading all 58,000 names of men and women who gave their lives in the Vietnam War around the clock as well.

On Thursday and Friday, the Wall will have students visiting and learning about the history of the wall and the Vietnam War.

Saturday is the main event. There will be a ceremony held in the stadium that will be capped off with a flyover of at least two F-16 fighter jets.

Sunday, you are invited to take part in a Community Worship also in the new football stadium at 2 p.m. The Wall may be viewed until Sunday night, with the Wall leaving town mid Monday.

Please forgive me if I have sold this magnificent event short in anyway. The only thing I can say for sure is, you do not want to miss this. "Once in a lifetime" gets thrown around pretty freely these days, but trust me, this is a once in a lifetime event.

There are some businesses around the area that will be offering some great deals during the Wall That Heals exhibition. There is one specific deal that I thought you should know about and prepare for.

Wade Carlson and the rest of the gang at Wally Carlsons BP have a special offer that I think you will enjoy. On Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12, every gallon of gas that is sold, Wally Carlsons will donate 10 cents to the local Veterans.

That does not sound like a lot, but when you think about how much gas Wally Carlsons sells per weekend, it could add up to a lot of money. Everyone knows that I hold a special place in my heart for our local Veterans, so I am really hoping this is a huge success. At our house, we are putting just enough gas in to make it to next weekend and then filling both our vehicles at Wally Carlsons BP. I hope you will do the same. I will let you know the following week how the gas sales turned out.

We just gave away our final set of tickets to the St. Paul Saints game. The lucky winners were Cole Hubbard and his family of Chisago City. We have had a blast giving tickets out this year and we plan on doing more giveaways in the future. Thanks to all who sent in their registration forms.

This Saturday marks a special day for some loyal readers of the Chisago County Press. Babe and Kenny Anderson of Chisago City will be celebrating their wedding anniversary. The Andersons will be celebrating their 69th anniversary. What an amazing accomplishment for a great couple. If you know Kenny or Babe, you know that they are fun loving people with a great sense of humor. We should all be so lucky to be married for such a long time and to really enjoy it. Congratulations Kenny and Babe.

My family took the yearly jaunt to the Minnesota State Fair last week. Not wanting to upset the apple cart, I begrudgingly agreed to go. After dropping $11 for parking (last year it was $10), we headed up to the gate. Once there we dropped another $40 just to walk into the fair.

As you know, you are bombarded with opportunity after opportunity for making your wallet lighter and your stomach fuller. But we held our own. We were in the Fair for over an hour before we indulged on deep fried pickles (don't knock them until you try them) and cheese curds.

We spent the better part of the day at the fair and the only fiscal damage done was mainly at the Midway. You see, my family has a fascination or maybe even an addiction to cheap stuffed animals that smell like someone's car trunk. What the draw is, I have no idea, but the urge is so powerful, you had better not suggest leaving the Midway before each member has their own neon colored, moldy smelling unicorn. After all, who wouldn't want to sleep with a stuffed animal that has been to 15 other state fairs?

After our game coupons ran out, we finally ventured back to reality and the throngs of people. We spent another hour or so wandering around with our freaky looking stuffed animals tucked under our arms trying to find that one food item that we had to have. We never found it. With a quick trip to the fine arts building to decompress, we ended our fair experience.

On the ride home, I made the same statement that I have made for the last 13 years. "That was exactly the same as last year". One second later, I had a neon unicorn in my face and three people telling me that they didn't have this last year.
