Olson, a senior, was named both All-Conference and All-Conference Academic. He led the teams in wins and team points for the second year in a row and was also named the team's most valuable wrestler for the second straight year. He achieved his one-hundredth career victory at the state tournament. And Olson is no slouch in the classroom. He earned an All-Conference Academic award and, for the third year in a row, was named the Team Scholar. Olson also set the record for wins by a senior, with 37.
Junior Travis Kammerer (160) finished the season with 134 career wins, passing Brian Jones (128 wins) to move into second place on the all-time wildcat wins list. Kammerer has his sights set on the all-time Wildcat wins record of 154, held by the legendary Dan Dellwo, and has a great shot to make it. Kammerer, fellow junior Dylan Hoyt (285) and freshman Quade Zupko (112) were also named to the All-Conference team for the second year in a row. Kammerer and Zupko joined Olson at the state tournament.
Zupko had the season's fastest pin, needing just 15 seconds to beat his opponent. But what may be equally impressive is that the season's second fastest varsity pin, at 19 seconds, came from junior Josh Linman (160). Linman spent most of the season on the JV, getting to taste the varsity in just a handful of matches. He led the JV in nearly every category, but his path to the varsity was blocked by state entrant Kammerer.
With Olson and Riley Myers (152) as the team's only graduating seniors, the Wildcats will return a pretty experienced squad for the 2010-2011 season. That should mean more wins for Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon and his team. And if Kammerer and Zupko earn return visits to the state tourney, this year's experience should give them a better chance to place.
