Harvey Lunsman, a second-year Mechanical Design student at WITC-Rice Lake, was recently named the 2010 WITC Student Ambassador. The Ambassador Program recognizes exceptional technical college students throughout the state. Lundsman was chosen to represent the whole WITC district - besides Rice Lake, also Ashland, New Richmond and Superior campuses. His first stint as Ambassador will be to accompany WITC President Bob Meyers to Madison for the Wisconsin State Ambassador duty Conference in April.

The selection committee found Lunsman to be confident, personable and a good representative of successful WITC students. According to nominator Glenn Sokolowski, Mechanical Design Instructor, "Harvey is a silent leader in his class. His great work does not go unnoticed by his peers as they use Harvey as an information resource daily in the classroom. Harvey is the Mechanical Design Club treasurer and has already been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Stout for fall 2010."

After graduating from Chisago Lakes High School in 2006, Lunsman attended Minnesota School of Bartending, worked in fast food, carpentry, factory jobs and as a deli cook in and around Chisago and St. Croix . Because he found he loved mechanics, creative design and finding mechanical solutions to problems, he registered for the Mechanical Design program at WITC-Rice Lake in 2008.

Harvey was married last summer to his wife, Jeanne, and they've already secured an apartment for the move to Menomonie this spring to start the second phase of his education. His ultimate career goal "is to be a senior mechanical designer working in the green energy field developing new technologies to help make America energy independent."
