Lester T. Mattson of Chisago City formerly of Shafer passed away surrounded by family Thursday, March 4 at Parmly Lifepionts at the age of 91.

Les was born May 9, 1918 at Lindstrom to Theodore and Myrtle Mattson. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Shafer Contracting until his retirement. He was active with the Shafer Fire Department, served as Shafer Village Clerk and Mayor, the school board, the Masons, and was the former owner of the Shafer Mobile Manor. He enjoyed his rose garden and raising sheep.

Lester was preceded in death by wife, LaVerne, his parent and sisters Lois Cornwall and Marlys Uecker. Survived by sister Verlie Lawrence; daughters Anita (Richard) Hofmann and Vicki (Robert Lee) Mattson; beloved grandchildren Kimberly (Norm Thoreen) Hofmann, Michele (Tim) Hofmann-Grams, Tracey (Brandon Johnson) Hofmann and Thomas Seaton; great-grandchildren Samantha, Dallas, Gabriel, Taylor, Dylan and Isaac; nieces, nephews, relatives and many special friends.

Funeral services were held Monday at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Center City. Interment Hillside Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.grand strandfh.com.
