She was born October 10, 1917, in St. Paul, Minn., daughter of the late George and Mary (Heinl) Kiefner. Marie married Elmer Palmer on May 5, 1942, in South Dakota. He preceded her in death in 1983. Marie and Elmer lived in Forest Lake, Minn. where they owned and operated one of the largest dairy farms in Washington County.
After their retirement, Marie and Elmer enjoyed winter travel to Texas and Arizona. They also built many homes with their son, Bob, and grandson, Bobby, after their retirement.
Marie was an avid Bridge player and a crafty lady who spent many hours sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She was a hard worker who loved her family deeply and also enjoyed telling a good joke.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jane (Dennis) Anderson, Rochester, Minn., Patrice (David) Carpenter, Channing; nine grandchildren, RoseMarie Radi, Louise Palmer, Robert (Jill) Palmer, Jr., Linda Palmer, Chris Anderson, Tony (Michelle) Anderson, Melissa (Ken) Williment, Angela (Jarvis) Applekamp, Jonathon Carpenter; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica Palmer, Jenna (Justin) Luttinen, Trevor and Eva Anderson, Oneligh Williment, Madelyn and Aubrey Applekamp, and one grandson due anyday; one great great-grandson, Charlie Luttinen; daughter-in-law Geri Palmer, Chisago City, two sisters, Marcie Carlson, Janette Kiefner, both of St. Paul; many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by one son, Robert W. Palmer, on January 14, 2004; four sisters, Elsie Kernal, Anges Schowe, Emma Kiefner, Helen Schaffhausen; and two brothers, Lawrence and George Kiefner.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Grace Presbyterian Church, Sagola, Mich. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
