Carolyn married Lloyd C. Halstrom of Pine City in 1943, and was by his side as an Army wife throughout his military career, primarily at assignments in Germany and Fort Lee, VA. When he became a Methodist minister upon his retirement from the Army, she supported his ministry in the Petersburg, VA, area. Throughout their military and ministerial careers, Carolyn worked as a Registered Nurse at Army hospitals in Germany and Fort Lee, VA. When Lloyd retired from his ministry, they moved to Montgomery, AL, the home of their youngest son, Tim. When Lloyd died in 1987, Carolyn moved back to the North Branch area where she lived for five years with her recently widowed son, Jim, and his two children. Then back to Montgomery, AL. In 2009, Carolyn returned to Minnesota to spend her final years close to family and friends in the North Branch and Twin Cities area.
Carolyn's life was one of unmatched love for her family and many friends, her unfailing love for her Lord, and her natural gifts of caring and doing for those with whom she came into contact. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love, faith, and serving others; that those who knew her cherish and hold as a high example of a life truly well-lived. She will be greatly missed by all those who felt her love, faith and service.
Carolyn passed away September 20, 2010, at the age of 93, at her residence, the Sterling House, in Blaine, MN, with the love of her family and many friends surrounding her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd; her parents, Carl and Agnes Nyquist; brother, Gordon Nyquist; and daughter-in-law, Judy. She is survived by her children, Claudia and Bob Ingram of Littleton, CO; Jim and Tracie Halstrom of Centerville, MN; and Tim and LaMara Halstrom of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Debbie Halstrom Rutledge, Michael and Teresa Halstrom, Josh and Lindsay Ingram, Caroline Halstrom Torrence, Adam Halstrom, Dan Proch and Matt Proch; great grandchildren, Christopher Torrence, Coby Halstrom, Callie Halstrom, Dane Rutledge, and Cole Rutledge; beloved Sister-in-Law, Louise; and nephews and niece, Nancy (Nyquist) and Curt Wetsel; David and Pam Nyquist; Gary and Sher Nyquist, and their children and grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services were September 26, 2010, at St. James United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL. Burial alongside her husband, Lloyd, in Montgomery. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Harris Covenant Church Building Fund, Harris, MN.
