In Monticello for the meet, the girls got a big early win from one of their youngest varsity swimmers. In the 200 freestyle, the second event of the day, Thomi Lee got the Wildcats their initial first place result of the day with a 1:58.71 in the event.
The finish was a 5A True Team meet record, and she beat out a state qualifier from last year, Ashley Drazkowski of Monticello, who finished in second with a time of 1:59.18.
In the third event, the 200 individual medley, Thomi's older sister Brogan finished in second place with a time of 2:18.48. The finish is impressive, as the medley isn't Brogan's normal race.
Off the diving board, Sam Thomsen finished in third place behind two state participants from last year, Chole Timm and Chelsey Bethke of Sauk Rapids. Thomsen finished with a 354.50. CL's top diver, Lindsay Carlson, wasn't able to participate in the meet due to a severe cut she suffered on her hand a week earlier in an non-swimming accident.
She is back on the board this week, though, and will be ready for sections.
Brogan Lee got enother second place finish when she went 1:03.77 in the 100 butterfly. She narrowly missed out on firest place by less than a second.
Thomi Lee got her second first place finish of the meet, and maybe her most proud finish yet in the 500 freestyle. She swam it in 5:14.51, which shattered her older sister's pool and true team record of 5:17.19.
In the 200 freestyle relay, B. Lee, Hanna Lee, Heidi Willhite and T. Lee finished in third place with a time of 1:47.03, earning 52 points for the Wildcats.
That same quartet finished in second place in the 400 freestyle just a few events later, racking up another 54 points with a time of 3:55.51.
In the end, the Wildcats tallied 1,007 points, good enough for third place out of seven teams. Monticello won the meet with 1,301 points, and Big Lake finished in second with 1,077.
Sauk Rapids-Rice was right behind the Wildcats, scoring 996 points.
