SOCCER ROUNDUP: Two teams start out hot, two could use some good bounces
After a record eight wins last season, the Wildcat girls soccer team looks poised to easily surpass that total this season. They sport a 3-1 record after the first four games of the season. They opened the year with a 1-0 win at Cambridge. They followed that up with a 2-0 shutout of Duluth Central in the home opener. They pounded a fledgling Zimmerman squad 8-0 at home before suffering their first loss of the season, 2-1 at St. Francis.
The Wildcats face a big test tonight as they travel to perennial conference power Totino Grace for a 5 p.m. game. The Wildcats return home to host Irondale Monday, September 13 at 7 p.m.
Chisago Lakes Boys
The Wildcat boys' soccer team is 2-3 after a 1-0 loss at St. Francis last Thursday and a 2-0 shutout win over Cooper this past Tuesday.
The boys have a busy week of soccer ahead of them. They will play at Totino Grace tonight at 7 p.m. This Saturday, they will host Cloquet-Esko-Carlton at 2 p.m. at Chisago Lakes High School. Next Monday, September 13 they will stay at home to play Irondale at 5 p.m.
North Branch Girls
Sophomore Bayley Ertl's hat trick led the Vikings to their first win of the season, 8-0 over Columbia Heights last Thursday, September 2. Sophomore Jamie Salo broke into the 2010 scoring column in a big way with two goals and an assist. Senior Alina Amunrud and sophomore Morgan Morganstern each scored their first goals of the young season. Senior Sadie Kolke had a goal and an assist. Ertl and freshman Kora Amunrud had the other two assists for the Vikings.
The Viking's record dropped to 1-4 on the season with a 4-1 loss at home to Totino Grace this past Tuesday.
This Saturday, the girls will host Cambridge-Isanti at 11 a.m. at North Branch High School. Next Monday, September 13 the Vikings will stay at home to take on St. Louis Park at 7 p.m.
North Branch Boys
The Viking boys' soccer team fell just short of their goal to start the season 5-0, losing 4-2 to Totino Grace this past Tuesday at home. Nick Miller had a goal and an assist for the Vikings and continues to lead the state in scoring. Tony Ceroll also had a goal and Trent Klatt assisted on Miller's goal.
This Saturday, the boys will host Cambridge-Isanti at 1 p.m. at North Branch High School. Next Monday, September 13 the Vikings will stay at home to take on St. Louis Park at 5 p.m.
