They were among 83 teachers from 43 districts. The teachers were chosen by their superintendents for the TIES Exceptional Teacher award, which recognizes teachers who model the best practices in using technology in their classroom and engaging students in learning.
Amunrud has worked with various forms of technology as a technology teacher and recently as a classroom teacher. From interactive white boards, laptops and Internet resources to response systems, her students experience technology in her classroom. She recently expanded her use of technology to include the use of blogs with her third-grade students.
Brouwer's ability to use and experiment with technology in his classroom and to engage students in higher-order thinking, along with a genuine collaborative spirit, makes him a consummate team player.
Besides being recognized at the conference, each teacher is featured in the TIES Exceptional Teachers publication and received a certificate.
School districts participating in the TIES Exceptional Teacher award program are members of TIES, an education technology consortium of 46 Minnesota school districts.
