Mark you calendars for February 26 and 27. The 2011 Home & Garden and Business Show will hold the area's largest two day home improvement show. Not limited to home improvement, the show will have over 120 exhibitors all offering wonderful goods or services for your home, garden or business.

There will be entertainment both days on the stage in the gym. You can see cloggers as well as a play that features Ole and Lena. There will be wellness seminars as well as seminars on designing outdoor living spaces. The Home Show will feature two singers as well as a fly casting seminar for those of you who fish.

The County Press has been part of the Chisago Lakes Home Show for as long as I can remember, so take it from me, this show will be great. In a time of turbulent finances, more and more people are looking to spend money on their home instead of spending frivolously elsewhere. The Home Show is a perfect place to find a business that can help you make your home or business your private oasis.

The show runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. I hope to see you there.

Saturday, February 19, local legislators plan to meet with the public at North Branch Library and then at Chisago Lakes Area Library. Senator Sean Nienow and Representative Bob Barrett are holding their "Town Hall" meetings from 10 to 11 a.m. and then 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Chisago.

Nienow has signed onto an interesting bill that would provide an exemption for businesses (bars) to allow smoking. It has many requirements to meet conditions, but this is just one of the many pieces of legislation local lawmakers are involved in. Rep. Barrett sits on an Education Reform Committee that is breaking some new ground on that issue as well.

The Chisago County Press would like to extend our condolences to the family of North Branch Councilman Larry Erickson. Larry sadly passed away last week. The community lost a real gem in Larry, he will be missed by all.

If you are one of our loyal readers who purchase your paper from the news stand, thank you. Have you ever thought about getting the Press delivered to your doorstep? Right now we are offering a special for new subscribers. For only $11.50 you can receive the Chisago County Press in your mailbox every week. That price will take you until the first week in May when everyone's subscriptions are up for renewal. You will then receive a blue card in the mail asking to renew your subscription. Give us a call at 651-257-5115 to begin your subscription today.

Few people know this, but the Chisago County Press does a lot more than just print newspapers. That's right, we have the capability of printing everything from brochures, to post cards to large size posters. If it has to do with printing, we can do it. Give our sales staff a call at 257-5115 and let them show you how to better promote your business or event.

If you are looking to raise money for your sports organization, please give us a call here at the Press. We have some great fundraising ideas that will benefit your association. Our number is 651-257-5115. I will write more in depth in weeks to follow.

Remember when it rained about a month ago? I wrote about all of the beautiful waterfalls cascading gently through the roof here at the Press? Sadly, the waterfalls ceased when the temperatures dipped below zero. Kind of a double whammy, waterfalls end, but heating bills sky rocket.

Well, I am happy to report with the beautiful weather we are having, the waterfalls have returned. Almost every room now has its own waterfall and reflecting pool. If one were to purchase a special day at a spa retreat, it would cost hundreds of dollars. Our lucky employees get to enjoy spa like settings every day. Ohm, ohm, ohmmm.
