The Home Show, where it's always dry and 70 degrees, help the senior class
The show begins this Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs all day until 4 p.m. If you can't attend the show on Saturday, it will resume Sunday morning at 11 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.
What will you find at the show? Let me just start by saying the show is free. Right away it is sounding good. Now to the exhibitors. This year the show will host over 120 exhibitors that would love nothing more than showing you how their business works and how it can benefit you.
You can order a new garage door or you can schedule a photo shoot. You find a new dock to replace your weathered existing one or you can order new kitchen cabinets. You can..well you get the picture, the show has something for everyone.
The good folks that head up the Home Show have also landed some great entertainment for this year's show. Dr. Carlson will be hosting a seminar "Saving your body, while keeping your garden green". The Chisago Lakes Community Foundation will be putting on an informative skit "Life is Good for Ole and Lena".
The River City Cloggers will perform at 1 p.m. on Saturday as well. Bill Mack and Barbara Haften will give a great seminar on designing outdoor living spaces at 2 p.m.
Then at 3 on Saturday, we have two very talented singers for your listening pleasure. Josie will go on at 3 and Luke Spehar will perform at 3:30.
On Sunday, Barbara Haften and Bill Mack will repeat their seminar at 11:30 a.m. Then at 12:30, former Superintendent Tom Dickhudt will give a seminar called "Nature in your back yard". The cloggers will take the stage at 1 p.m. if you happen to miss their Saturday show. At 2 p.m. Dan Brown, who writes an outdoor column in this paper, will be giving a really cool seminar on fly casting.
I really hope you and your family have a chance to come to the show. the weather is supposed to be blah, so why not head to where it's warm?
In my column last week, I spoke about some of the committees that newly elected Senator Sean Nienow and Representative Bob Barrett were serving on. I wrote that Nienow was part of a group that was trying to bring back smoking in bars in some capacity to help bar owners financially. I then wrote about Barrett serving on a school reform committee that was "breaking ground on that issue". I apologize if somehow it reads that Barrett was breaking ground on the smoking issue. He is not, I was referring to school reform. I apologize if I caused any confusion.
Keeping on the political subject, local townships will be voting on candidates this March. If you are running for a seat as a township supervisor, you are welcome to submit a filing statement to the County Press. We will run statements until the week prior to the March 8 election. You can email your statement to [email protected], include a photo if you like. There are challenges in Fish Lake, Franconia and Lent township races.
The soon to be graduates of Chisago Lakes Senior High School would like to feed you breakfast. The seniors are trying to raise money for their senior party, and Bayside Bar and Grille has been gracious enough to help. The pancake breakfast will run from 8 a.m. until noon and all proceeds will go directly to the senior party.
The good folks at the Dinnerbel (Bayside) have completed an amazing transformation of the building and you will be blown away at the changes and especially at the food quality. The Bayside has become a great dining destination and on Sunday you can see the changes. Come on out before you head to the Home Show and have some great food. The seniors will thank you for it.
Were you like me on Sunday afternoon? I was mulling around the house telling my kids that this was the worst predicted storm of all time. We were supposed to wake up Sunday morning with 12 inches of snow. We woke up to dry roads and sidewalks. It just started to flurry about noon, and the running joke in our house was to "Take shelter, it's going to be massive". To my dismay, it ended up being pretty large and pretty deep. There were a lot of meteorologists breathing a sigh of relief. I was breathing a sigh of, "Are you kidding me?"
