Lester J. Johnson, age 93, of Center City, died March 15, 2011 at Parmly LifePointes.

Lester was born July 13, 1917 to John T. Christine Johnson of Kennedy, Minnesota. When he was a teenager, the family moved to the Lindstrom area. Lester graduated from Lindstrom-Center City High School in 1937.

On April 17, 1943 Lester married Lois Strougren of Center City. After Lester's service in the Navy during World War II, they lived in Albert Lea, South St. Paul, Cloquet and Brainerd, MN, before settling back into Lois's childhood home in Center City. In 2001 they became residents of Bayview Apartments, also in Center City.

Lester's primary occupation was as an engineering construction foreman. Following retirement he maintained the cemeteries for Chisago Lake Lutheran Church for many years. Volunteer activities included: Masons Eastern Star, Bridge Club, Meals on Wheels and Hazelden. Lester also served on the Center City Council, Church Board and the board of directors of the former Chisago County State Bank.

Lester was preceded in death by his wife Lois of 67 years, his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousin, his godchildren the Ambles, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial service Tuesday, March 22, 11 a.m. at Chisago Lakes Lutheran Church, Center City with Rev. Craig Lundsad-Vogt officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Burial at Hillside Cemetery, Center City.
