In this yearly contest, students present a 5-7 minute speech on abortion, euthanasia, or infanticide.
Shannon focused on "Planned Parenthood", the world's largest contraception and abortion provider.
Becca spoke about not being afraid to stand up for what you believe in, and told a story of a 20 year old woman, 4 1/2 months pregnant who was scheduled for an abortion because her mother wouldn't let her live with her if she had the baby. She met another woman at a party the night before her appointment who offered her a place to live. She gave birth to a girl. Years later, after having lost contact, the two women ran into each other, and both were thankful that the life of this beautiful girl had been spared.
Both contestants are high school juniors and attended the Students for Life Conference in Washington D.C. in January. They were inspired to share their knowledge of how abortion hurts women and want to see en end of this "legal crime."
Both will now advance to the State Competition at the University of St. Thomas April 10. The students placing first in the state contest will receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Right to Life Oratory Contest in Jacksonville, Florida on June 25.
