Cadillac Dinner is this Saturday night, Kudos to our troops and our President
The dinner will be held at the Chisago City Community Center, with a dinner that will feature prime rib or chicken. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a social hour and the dinner kicks off at 7 p.m.
When the dinner is finished, that's when the fun really gets going. The raffle, which this year consists of over $3,000 in value, begins. They give away all kinds of great prizes. Mixed in with the raffle are drawings for cash. Over $4,450 will be given away including a grand prize of $2,000 for the 100th number drawn.
We have had some upcomings announcements about the dinner in the last couple of week's papers and we made a mistake. We inadvertently wrote that ticket holders need to be present to win, when they do not need to be present to win. We apologize for any confusion we may have caused. If you would like to attend the Cadillac Dinner, please call Tom at 651-269-2596 or Jim at 651-257-7407.
If you have yet to sign up for the Carp Contest, I would urge you to do so soon. Spots are filling for this great event. The good folks that run the contest are in need of lakeshore owners help. They are looking for property owners who are willing to allow participants to use their shore line. If you have had an abundance of carp in front of your property, this is a great chance to remove them. Just call Steve at 651-462-7900 or 651-257-2966. He will bring you a waiver to sign so you are protected.
Here are a few more carp facts that might encourage you to take part in the contest. Adult carp have no predators, so they will dominate the waters of a lake. An adult carp can lay in excess of one million eggs each year, a large mouth bass lays up to 45,000 per year. Carp are both bottom and surface feeders and can tolerate extreme conditions such as low oxygen levels that native fish cannot. Take an adult female carp out of the lake during spawning season and you will take a million eggs with her. You get the picture.
To take part in the contest, please call 651-462-7900 or email [email protected]. Remember to type slowly, Steve is a slow reader.

Wow can you believe that Osama bin Laden is finally gone? When the networks began teasing us about an important message from the President, I had visions of ground troops in Libya or starting another war in a far off country. Then it took an hour before the President came on and told the good news.
I feel the best for those whose family members were lost in the towers and the plane crashes back on 9/11. Not that hearing of his death would bring any of their loved ones back, but that justice has been served.
How this guy has eluded the smartest military for 10 years is mind boggling. To make matters worse, he ends up living in a neighborhood in a city. Makes you wonder how long he had been living there?
What the special forces team did was nothing short of extraordinary, and to top it off, no U.S. lives were lost. Kudos to the military and kudos to the President for ordering the action.
If you look what impact bin Laden has had in the world, look no farther than mainstreet USA. His actions have put the economy in a downward spiral, which is exactly what he wanted. Now that he is removed, the sense of hope will be greater. Yes, more attacks avenging his death are probably imminent, but since the attacks on 9/11, we have done a great job staving off terrorist plots. We need to still be vigilant, but at the same time, we need to have hope and work towards a better future. I belive that scenario is just around the corner.
