When it comes to the Chisago Lakes girls hockey team and in particular Megan Lushanko, bigger hasn't always meant better.

Lushanko, the little forward that could, signed on the dotted line to play hockey for the Bemidji State Beavers during the early signing period last week.

Lushanko led the Wildcats in scoring the past two years, including 60 points last year on 36 goals and 24 assists. The 'Cats also made a surprising run at the consolation championship when Lushanko was a sophomore two years ago and she was a big part of it.

Lushanko is well known as one of the metro's fastest skaters, and she's always posses a lethal finishing ability around the net. She just know's where to be when the puck hits the ice. Her vision on the ice has also been lauded throughout her career.

Now, with her full senior season still ahead of her, Lushanko mapped out her future early by signing with the Division I Beavers.

Bemidji State is a perennial top 10 program in womens Division I hockey. They were ranked 10th earlier this year, but dropped to 11th after a couple of tough losses. They are 8-3-2 right now.

Lushanko is the first girl under Chisago Lakes Head Coach Jason Mahlen that will be going on to play Division I hockey.

For a full interview with Lushanko on her decision to play at BSU, check out next week's issue of the Chisago County Press.
