Robbinsdale Cooper 2, Chisago Lakes 0 The Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks scored the only runs of the game in the third inning, shutting out the Wildcats 2-0 on Tuesday, April 17 at Cooper High School in New Hope. Hunter Lindstrom had another strong showing on the mound for the Wildcats, allowing just two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking three in a complete game performance. Mitch Berg continued his hot hitting, going two for three in the game. Danny Kimlinger had the Wildcats’ only base hit for the day, a two-out double in the fifth inning. Kimlinger stole third, the only Wildcat to reach third for the game, but was stranded there when the next batter struck out. In the bottom of the third inning, a Cooper batter led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. The next batter walked. The runners moved up to third and second on a passed ball.

The next batter executed a suicide squeeze on an 0-1 count to give Cooper a 1-0 lead. A single drove in an insurance run. The Wildcats down to defeat for the second time in the young season. Chisago Lakes 13, Columbia Heights, 3 The Wildcats took out their offensive frustrations on overmatched Columbia Heights, pounding out eight hits and taking advantage of six walks and a hit batter to beat the Hylanders 13-3 last Thursday, April 19 at Columbia Heights. Louis Kastenbauer ripped a double down the left field line in the second inning to drive in two runs in the third inning. For the game, Brandon Gorski singled, walked and reached on an error, scoring three runs. Kyle Graeve’s single up the middle in the third inning may have been the hardest hit ball of the game but it never left the infield, as it one-hopped the pitcher’s shin . Kellen Reed started and went four innings to pick up the win. Dylan Magnuson, Gorski and Mitch Berg threw each threw an inning to get in some work.

Chisago Lakes 2, Princeton 1 Kellen Reed drove in the eventual winning run with a fourth inning single, and Dylan Magnuson pitched seven strong innings to lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 win over Princeton on Saturday, April 21 at Chisago Lakes. In the bottom of the first inning, Scott Hammer was hit by a pitch with one out. He stole second, and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Mitch Berg arched on an error, with Hammer scoring on the play and Berg picking up an RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, Miles Turk walked and went to second on a passed ball. He scored on Reed’s single to put the Wildcats up 2-0. In the top of the fifth, the Tiger leadoff batter reached on an error with no outs.

The next two batters went out, but two consecutive singles drove in a run to cut the lead to 2-1. But Magnuson struck out the next batter looking to end the Tiger’s only real threat of the game. Magnuson continued the string of excellent pitching performances by Wildcat hurlers. In the complete game win, he allowed one unearned run on five hits, struck out seven and didn’t walk anybody. Matt Hasselquist had two of the Wildcats’ seven hits for the game. The Wildcats face two conference opponents early next week. They’ll host Irondale at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 30 and travel to St. Louis Park to take on Benilde-St. Margaret’s Wednesday, May 2 at 4:30.
