Shift to new route in Lindstrom on-schedule

The Highway 8 project Stage 2 is beginning. Traffic patterns changed, new roads will be closed and we will all need to relearn how to get around downtown Lindstrom. The following is a guide to help you navigate your way through the Stage 2 traffic shifts. Stage 2 calls for the closure of (the old mainstreet Highway 8) to through traffic. All traffic will now be shifted to the newly constructed Highway 8 (old First Ave). County Road 20 (North Lake Trail) will remain open as the North/South route. To access the businesses in downtown Lindstrom use the following detour: You are traveling east: Take HWY 8 to signal light at North Lakes Trail (County 20) Turn Right onto North Lakes Trail (County 20/Oak St.) Take North Lakes Trail (County 20/Oak St.) past current Highway 8 to four way stop at Newell Ave. and Oak St. Turn left or right on Newell Ave. depending upon desired business. You are headed west: Take HWY 8 to signal light at North Lakes Trail (County 20) Turn Left onto North Lakes Trail (County 20/Oak St) Take North Lakes Trail (County 20/Oak St.) south past current Highway 8 to four way stop at Newell Ave. and Oak St. Turn left or right on Newell Ave. depending upon desired business. Stage 2 also calls for the closure of southbound Akerson at Highway 8 and southbound Olinda Trail at Highway 8. These two roads will only be closed near highway 8.

While Olinda and Akerson are closed, southbound Broadway will remain open. To access the businesses on this side of town use the following detour: From the East Take HWY 8 to Broadway Turn left at Broadway. Follow Broadway to desired business. From the West Take HWY 8 to Broadway Turn right at Broadway Follow Broadway to desired business. Parking during Stage 2 will be allowed on Newell Ave, Maple Street, Park Street and Linden. When it is completed traffic will return to both sides of highway 8 and the split pairs will each carry traffic throughout the winter months. The plan is for 2013 completion of stage 3, which is the final asphalt layer and the landscaping.
