Threshing Show is here; construction takes a turn in Lindstrom; how 'bout a picnic?
Well, you might have heard or seen, but the shut down of Highway 8 in downtown Lindstrom has begun. Until now, the closure of First Avenue has been a pain for some especially businesses along the street. But this closure is where we are going to see major headaches and major strains on Highway 8 businesses. There are a few businesses that do not have rear entrances making it very hard to get to their business.
It is going to be a trying few months in Lindstrom. I ask, no plead with you, to please shop locally. These great folks are depending on you, our town is depending on you. I understand that construction has people on edge, but there is an epidemic of sorts taking place. Have you noticed that everyone seems to be in a hurry these days? I know life has gotten busy for all of us, but what is going on around town is ridiculous. I see people waiting to cross the highway for minutes upon minutes before someone will be so gracious to stop for them. What really gets me is when someone actually stops to let someone cross and as the pedestrians are crossing, a car decides they have waited too long and passes on the shoulder nearly striking the pedestrian(s). It is only going to be a matter of time before I am writing about the tragedy that took place on Highway 8. Honestly, where are people going that they can’t wait 30 seconds? This weekend is one of my all time favorite events. The Almelund Threshing Show is beginning its 56th year. Amazing. If you have never been to the Threshing Show, I highly recommend it. If you have children, it is a must. What kid wouldn’t like looking at hundreds of colorful tractors and even see them in a parade? The show is packed with things to do and see. You enoy tractor talk everyday and take in the tractor parade daily at 1 p.m. Friday night is a big crowd pleaser with the annual tractor pull. after the pull, the Rockin Hollywoods will be performing in the beer garden. Saturday, your children are encouraged to take part in a pedal tractor pull. We have some friends whose daughter won the pull and then got invited to nationals.
The family went to the Fargo Dome to watch her compete. Saturday also has another fun event, the old time tractor pull. You will see tractors you didn’t know existed pulling massive weights. Saturday night, Alan Godage & Sundown will headline the dance at the beer garden. Sunday, don’t worry about missing church, there is a service at the show. Bring your John Deer garden tractor and enter it in the tractor pull. To enter, please call Brandon at 651-257-1434. Come on out, see some amazing tractors and have some great food. The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can visit their website at www.almelundthreshingco.org. Remember that WineHaven is hosting the annual Rhubarb Frenzy this weekend. If you have had their rhubarb wine, you know how fantastic it is. Along with tasting great wine, they will be serving wonderful food. Admission is free. WineHaven is located across from Lakeside Elementary School on Karmel Avenue, real easy to find. Remember the Sportmen’s Picnic is this Sunday. Bring the family out for some great food, beverages, prizes and a lot of fun. The picnic features all kinds of kid’s games and there will be a bike given away for both boys and girls. The summer is quickly coming to an end, and kids are getting antsy.
They all want to do something “fun” before school starts. Apparently mowing the lawn and putting laundry away doesn’t qualify as “fun”. Here is a great idea that is local and “fun”. Why not take the kids to Wild Mountain? We took our kids recently and they had an absolute blast. There are waterslides of every level, go-carts, alpine slides, and my favorite, the lazy river. With the heat what it has been, this is a great way for you to shine in your kid’s eyes.
