What an amazing winter sports season Chisago Lakes is having.  We have the girls hockey team playing in the state tournament.  We also have some gymnasts that have made it to state as well.  The girls basketball team has a legitimate shot to make it to the tournament and a bunch of wrestlers will also make it to the state wrestling tournament.  Quite amazing if you think about it.  Off hand, I can not remember a season filled with this many kids doing so well.  Congratulations to all of these great kids...and Good Luck!
Make sure to reserve some time in two weeks.  Time enough for you and your family to attend the annual Chisago Lakes Home Garden and Business Show at the high school.  The show runs March 3 & 4 and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.  I sit on the Home Show Committee, and our reserved vendor booths are up considerably from years past.  Hopefully, that is a sign that the economy is finally progressing.
This year, as in years past, there is a raffle drawing for a grand prize.  The prize this year is a Ipad.  Very cool.  You can purchase tickets for the Ipad at the Chamber of Commerce booth or if you would like to pre-purchase tickets, please call the Chamber at 651-257-1177.  We are only selling 250 tickets so your odds are pretty darn good.
On Sunday, you and your family are invited to the Chisago Lakes High School for a Clogging Show by the Lake Country Cloggers.  The show begins at 3 p.m. and admission is a non-perishable food item.  All proceeds will go to the food shelf and the Chisago Lakes Community Dinner.  The show will be held at the  PAC on the west side of the high school.  Come on out, enjoy the show, and help your community.
The Chisago Lakes School Endowment Fund has been collecting items to preserve Chisago Lakes School memories.  Yearbooks, trophies, uniforms, photos, homecoming buttons plus other memorabilia have been collected  from the former Lindstrom/ Center City / Shafer, Taylors Falls and Chisago City school districts.  There are also items on display from the Chisago Lakes Trojans and the Wildcats.  The Alumni Room is located across from the Performing Arts Center in the High School.  It will be open during the Chisago Lakes Home, Garden, and Business Show on March 3 & 4 at the High School.  If you have any items you would like to contribute for the Alumni Room, please call LouAnn Mattson (257-6270), Monica Tosteson (257-8848) , or Noel Stensrud (428-4535).

The Chisago Lakes Seniors would like to invite you to Arby’s tonight (February 23) for a great meal.  For one night only, 15 percent of your meal will be donated to the seniors for their Senior Party.  If you come to Arby’s between 4 and 8 p.m., please tell the cashier you would like to support the Class of 2012 Seniors.
Speaking of high school, Recycled Wardrobes is once again holding their Prom Dress Event.  All prom dresses are in great shape and only cost $25.  To go along with this unbelievable price, girls will also receive discounts for dining at Meredee’s, discounts from Designers Salon, Chisago Nais, Hair Design and Hair Waves.  They are also offered discounts from A Bead-i-ful Place, Forest Lake Dry Cleaning and the Threaded Needle.  Thank you to all these businesses for making prom something to enjoy and not worry about.
I had an interesting occurrence last Friday.  I took my kids and two of their friends out for a fun afternoon of goofing around the area.  While parking at one of the businesses we visited, I noticed that every car was parked off the marks.  By that I mean they were double parked, but they all were.  I had no choice but to park the same way because it was the only spot available.
After about four hours and a lot of goofing off and having fun, we headed back to our car.  When we got there, the cars had cleared out and new ones were now parked correctly...except mine.  Great now I look like the guy whose car is better than everyone else’s.  Only problem is I drive a 95’ Buick not a Corvette.
Embarrassed, we quickly got in and drove away.  While taking my kid’s friends home, I noticed an odd sound coming from the driver’s side wheel.  After dropping the first friend off, I got out inspected the tire and it looked just fine.  As we took my daughter’s friend home, the sound got even louder. Again, I got out and inspected the car, I couldn’t find anything wrong.  as we headed home, the sound was so loud that my kids were wondering if we would be walking home.
Well, we made it to our house and when safely in the garage, I looked very closely.  Here someone had loosened every lug nut on the driver’s side front wheel. We had driven on the highway in two lane traffic and the wheel could have fallen off at any time.  It made me physically sick to think about what could have happened.  Who in the world would do that to teach someone a lesson?  Potentially kill five people because of the way they parked?  Sometimes this world scares me.
