“Get on board with the VetCorps!” urged Tom Koplitz in Washington DC last week.   Koplitz was an invited guest speaker at the 22nd Annual CADCA Leadership Forum in Washington DC.
CADCA  (Community Anti Drug Coalitions of America) provides resources and support to coalitions throughout the country and abroad, and annually brings together 3,000 coalition leaders for a national forum.  Koplitz, Executive Director of Community Partnership with Youth & Families, a local nonprofit working to prevent and reduce underage drug and alcohol use spoke about the new VetCorps initiative, which connects veterans, military service members and their families to needed services.  VetCorps places an AmeriCorps or AmeriCorps VISTA member at each of 100 coalitions around the country.
“My organization was the first in America to sign on and we see this as a tremendous opportunity to serve those who have served our country overseas.”  Veterans, military service members and their families all too often need local support and services when they return home from service.  “The VetCorps initiative is one more tool to help us build drug free communities.”
Koplitz said the VetCorps position is still vacant in this area, and urges local veterans and military service members to look into the opportunity.  For more information, call Community Partnership at 651-674-4085. The position pays a stipend and health benefits and has a bonus when your years (upto three) are done.
