Northwest Suburban Invitational at Trollhaugen

The Chisago Lakes boys alpine ski team blazed through another Northwest Suburban Conference ski meet with some impressive results.

Flying down Trollhaugen at breakneck speeds, the 'Cats got three top seven finishes, and five of the top 15 spots and that carried them to another victory.

Senior captain Joe Cartier was the top finisher for the 'Cats. He finished the two combined runs in 54.65 seconds, good enough for fourth place.

Jake Sandgren was right behind him, finishing in fifth place overall with a combined time of 56.96 seconds. Cartier and Sandgren had the two fastest runs on the red course.

Anders Brown finished in seventh place after finishing seventh on the red course and 11th on the blue course. His combined time of 58.28 was his best of the year.

Tanner Rivard and Hunter Haas finished back-to-back in 14th and 15th place, respectively. Rivard had a combined time of 1:02.14 and Haas was one-one-hundredths of a second behind him at 1:02.15.

Brandon Marvin finished in 18th, Casey Bennett earned 25th place, Hogan Haas finished in 26th, Miles Turk came in 28th place and Daniel Sagendorf came in 49th.

Their combined score of 619 points was 43 points clear of second place competitor Centennial. Champlin Park finished in third with 553 points.

The top three individuals ahead of Cartier and Sandgren were Taylor Lindy and Dan Koski of Centennial and Josh Phleger of Champlin.

Girls

The girls half of the team tied for third place with the Andover Huskies.

They were led by senior captain Katie Rayer, who finished first in the event. She had the second fastest time on the red course and the fastest time on the blue course. Her combined time of 58.42 was a second and a half faster than second place Erin Wendt of Centennial.

Although there was quite a drop until the next CL finisher, they came in remarkably consistent. Lauren Peltier (33rd), Elizabeth Frischmon (34th), Mikayla Granfors (35th, Johanna Specht (38th), Claire Eikens (39th) and Kathryn Swanson 41st) were all within eight positions of each other.

Ashley Angel was well on her way to a top finish with the 13th best finish on the blue course, but a fall on the red course doomed her to a tough finish. She came in 67th place after taking 1:12.89 on the second run.

Centennial won the meet with 463 points, Blaine came in second with 409 and the 'Cats and Andover tied with 346.
